Default Annoyances - Master Door lock switch & limp seat belt tensioners

My '99 driver's side interior door lock switch quit working a year or so ago. The passenger side also does not work. However, door locks work fine with keyless entry, ingition switch auto-lock, and door key. Someone told me it was a Master Door lock switch, which ain't a cheap part. Is there a way to test the switch to make sure that's it?

Also, is the only fix for limp Driver and Passenger side seat belt tensioners a new tensioner, and how long do the darn things last?

See if these links will help for your lock inspection.

Thanks Kanaduh,
I'll check that out...Any hope for the wimpy seatbelt tensioner? I have to be very careful now to not catch the POS when I close my door.

Look here for the 1996 service manual. I don't think they are adjustable. Toyota Factory Service Manuals (FSM) - all years - YotaTech Forums

Robs10, I found this cautionary note on the seat belt tensioners.

1- My worst gripe is the lame seat belt retractors. I have tried everything posted here, works for a little while then very weak again.

I took one of mine apart, and see that the coil spring has pretty much relaxed and become deformed in the opposite direction for about a foot. I am toying with getting some blue spring steel instead of the stainless and making a new spring. I would love to find a used one to work on before taking the ones in the truck out and taking a chance.

Taking this unit apart is not for the weak of heart! Also, you need to carefully, with your body grounded to avoid static, short the plug on the explosive retractor unit to avoid it going off when working on it.

Here's a Tundra fix, should be similar.

The Tundra/sandpaper fix sounds easy enough to try. Thanks!

Just a thought. My ex wifes Camry had the same problem. In my case I had a wiring schematic, aND IN USING IT, i WAS ABLE TO TELL JUST WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS. (A BREAK IN THE WIRING). If your good with schematics, pick one up, and you should figure out right where to go with a volt/ohmeter. Good luck. P.S. Consider a salvage yard for that master switch if you find thats where the problem is.
