Wow! As bitter as I am that I paid extra for the AP, wheels and running boards, I would feel really ripped off if I had got the unpainted body cladding. That is about a $3000 hit in loss of resale value (rebate + running boards + wheels).

Ah, easy for you to say since you have a leased limited and haven't lost several thousand $$$.

I am not really complaining. I could have bought an Explorer, then I would probably be in tears. I would like to have waited and had that extra $1500 in my pocket to buy extra toys with. $1500 would make a nice dent in the price of a super charger!

I haven't dealt with leasing, do you get to buy it back based on a predetermined price? If so, you probably will make out. Also, of more importance, if you buy it back after the lease period, does it then become eligible to be a Toyota certified used car, thus substantially increasing the warranty and adding road side assistance? That would make it very worth while.

Default whining

There are changes that are made all the time to equipment levels, pricing, and specials that are done from time to time that affect the value of your current car(s).

It was a real surprise to me that Toyota underwent such a change with the new 2003 4Runner in springtime. I was quite tired of changing my pricing lists and codes for what was now an option... and what was standard -- and what colors one could get with what packages, and I betcha my porters changed MSRP's 3-4 times before they quit moving the line in the sand.

My own driver, a 2002 Camry SE V6 LOADED.. was $31500 at MSRP and $27000 at invoice. For 2003, they made the motor/horses/tranny change, so now, the same car with 210 HP (20 higher) and a 5ECT tranny (mine's a 4-sp auto) and a better V6 is $1200 cheaper at invoice, and there is a $1000 rebate on it to boot. Grr! But, I have had the car for a year and a half and wouldn't have waited for anything because I wanted it when I wanted it.

We all risk better deals and different things coming out after we make decisions. I betcha that when Chevy announced their zero apr for all-across-the-entire-model-line, there were a few folks pissed. That kills trade value. I experience it with Tundra. Every time there is a high incentive to buy new, it harms trade value of the late model used. One argument for leasing, for certain!

But, I do sympathize with those who have the early model SR5 and sport 4Runners. What Toyota's building now is better looking and a little cheaper.
