Question Custom exhaust?

I am not really happy with the exhaust sound of the 4Runner V6, so I,m considering going with a custom exhaust. I had a custom exhaust shop quote me $700 to replace everything from the cat back in stainless steel. This includes the pipes a throaty muffler and custom tips. The owner of the shop said he could give me a nice sound (not to loud) he would bend the pipes to exact vehicle specs. Anybody out there done this to a 2003 as of now. I know Borla offers an aftermarket system for about the same $. BTW, this stainless system carries a lifetime warranty (full replacement) on all of the installed components! I previously had a V8 Tundra and didn,t mind the sound of that at all. Other than this, I love this suv! Also will this void the Toyota warranty if it's only a cat back system. deserttoy

I just ordered my Borla system for my leased 4runner. Should receive it in a few business days. I did talk to Toyota and here's the info I received.

1. The system will not void the lease agreement. The guy said you can pretty much do anything you want to the truck, as long as you aren't drilling holes into the body or doing anything weird like that. He then went on to tell me that his buddy is leasing a Matrix and right after he signed up, he put a new exhaust system on.

2. I then called the service department to see if they'll actually install it for me. I'm in the Northeast and the Borla system is not offered through NE Toyota dealerships so I'm getting it shipped up from a SE dealership. The serviceman said that as long as there's no welding and no mods to the converter, they'll install it and the warranty will still be good.

Hope this helps.

Rick

bstboy - could you provide a little more information on this Borla system?

Specifically:
1. Website to look at it?
2. Cost?
3. Fits V6? (just to be sure)
4. Best way to order it (via Borla or from a SE dealer - since I'm in the NE as well)

Thanks!

You can go to borla.com and enter the criteria

It cost me 689.99 from the dealership. This dealer has an ebay store so that's how I ordered it. It's called DeLand Toyota...check it out.

Not 100% sure if it fits the V6 but I don't see why not.
