Default Thinking about Used 4runner...any advice

Im driving a '94 tercel around town and I save my tundra for a highway vehicle, since a terc aint that safe on the highway. Anyways, Ive realized a terc isnt that safe in town either. Ive gotten rear ended a couple of times (no damage or injuries, but Im sick of getting hit). Im thinking about getting some kind of truck or SUV to drive around town. Maybe a 4runner, pathfinder, blazer, etc. Probably something early 90s cuz I dont want to pay more than $3-4K. And since my Tundra is a 4x2, Id probably want a 4WD toy to play with. Ive never had any 4WD before so I could learn the intricacies and see if I really need it on my next tundra. I see a '93 4runner for about $4800 in my local paper. Any advice on what I should look for? Of course low price and low miles are bonuses...decent gas mileage is good too.

Unhappy Corolla too...

Yup, I agree...90 Tercel Coupe - hit 5 times. Finally totalled by a 5 time DUI loser...147,500 miles

96 Corolla - hit 3 times, totalled in rear ender by 18 year old applying make up...268,000 miles

GO BIG!

Brad

I can Highly Recommend a 4WD Honda CRV.
Stick to the first two years of production.
Make sure you get the third brake light upgrade, it flashes.

I had one of these as my primary vehicle before I needed a truck.
You may also want to consider an older Toyota RAV4 , it's a more truck-like vehicle when compared to the CRV.

Both of these mini-utes will serve you well as you travel around I-465...

Oh yes Ive posted in that thread a couple of times

I called about the 4runner I mentioned above. Heres the specs (from the guy's wife, who claims to not know much, go figure)

180K miles (damn!)
no major accidents
3rd owner?
truck is loaded, CD, CC, PW/PL/PM, etc
Asking $4850

I dont think I can gamble almost $5000 on a truck with that many miles. Even if it is a toyota. If I could get it for $2000-2500 I might bite. Im just looking for a pimp ride around town.
