Default Reprogram tire pressure sensors after tire swap??

Has anyone out there with the RF tire pressure sensors in their wheels replaced their tires and had to have the tire pressure sensors reprogrammed? My local dealer’s service department says it’s $90 to reprogram the sensors if the tires are removed from the wheels. Any feedback on this? This is the same dealer that quoted 4 hours of technician time to program a new keyless remote, so I have doubts about the info that they provide. Thanks.

I believe it requires that they remove the tires from the 5 wheels (includes spare) get the transmitter id's from the transmitter assemblies, then register each transmitter id using a handheld tester.

Do the transmitter IDs need to be re-entered even if I am using the same units that came on the truck?

NO.
As long as the tire sensors came with the vehicle, you can put any tire on you wish. Make sure all tire pressure are set to specs,INCLUDING THE SPARE.
The tire pressure warning light should then go out.

Changing tires has nothing to do with the pressure sensors. The ECU is still matched to the ID #'s of the SENSOR , not the tire.
When replacing tire pressure sensors, my dealer gets 2hrs labor for all 4. The tire has to be broken down and then the code #'s read, then they have to be remounted and balanced.
Your supposed to loosen the sensor and drop it into the tire before braking the bead on the tire, so as not to damage the sensor.

You DO NOT have to reprogram the tire sensors when replacing tires. The program is simply telling how much pressure to look for. As long as they put the right amount of air inside, you will be fine.

I just installed new wheels and tires on my Sequoia, using the original sensors, and all is working well.

p.s. It's time you got another dealer. Yours is full of crap! They either don't know what they are doing, or they are crooks.

I'm looking at some new rims and want to use the sensors out of my existing stock steel rims.

Does the valve stem loosen from the outside of the rim and then drop into the tire?

And when you installed the sensors into you new wheels did they seal up again ok?

Unhappy Re: Reprogram tire pressure sensors after tire swap??

I made the mistake of not taking the sensor loose, so when I was remounting a new tire, I broke a sensor. Now I am screwed! All the effort to order tires on line, got free shipping and no taxes, and still gonna cost me more in the long run because I got in a hurry and was not careful with a sensor. Oh well, everybody has a bad day once in a while.
