Hi folks, great forum. Mustang, thanks for all the help you've given people, it's great. I do have a question for you, suppose you've already had the head gasket repaired by Toyota, and it leaks again....are you out of luck?....also, what do you personally think of the liquid types of gasket repairs that are sponsored on this site?....I've watched their demo videos, and they seem quite impressive....do you belive them, and would they be permanent? Thanks, as I'm looking for a 4 Runner but am NOW very leary of anything below a 97 model year.

You can call toyota and ask, all they can do is say no at worst case.

Nope, I don't beleive in any of that stuff.

I sure hope mine is covered. just bought it a few months ago and replaced every hose and still losing coolant.

I am new to the board...I recently bought a 94 4runner....headgasket blew last week. :-(
I asked the previous owner if he had any work done to it and he said "no"....no recall or safety campaign work. So I call Toyota and was told that the V06 campaign work had been done in 12/99. So I called the dealership that was listed in the Toyota database. They said they have no record of having done any work on this vehicle....recall or otherwise.
The VIN falls within the range for 4runners to have the headgaskets replaced, but Toyota says it has already been done. There is no SSC label in the door either. Anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this or has anyone seen this before? Is there another way of finding out , for sure, if the headgasket has been replace on this particular vehicle.

Its been done, whoever looked it up at that dealer is wrong. It even shows it in the Toyota NATIONAL SERVICE HISTORY, they get that INFORMATION from the DEALERS

Hey mustang . thanks for doing all these look ups! can you add another to your list?

I just picked it up off craigslist for $920! it is a salvaged title 93 automatic but no frame damage just a fender bender and it has been fixed but it needs an alternator it appears and has leaky valve cover gaskets for sure. it seems to run fine but every now and then it will blow some semi white smoke out of the exhaust. the prior owner says it was the oil from the valve cover leaking on the manifold but that didnt sound right to me. i'm leaning towards the head gaskets going. i hope not!

what are the main signs of head gasket failure just to recap?

how hard are they to replace on my own? ive replaced injectors, timing belts, water pumps, power steering pumps and the such but never head gaskets. i have a decent set of tools.
