I just picked it up off craigslist for $920! it is a salvaged title 93 automatic but no frame damage just a fender bender and it has been fixed but it needs an alternator it appears and has leaky valve cover gaskets for sure. it seems to run fine but every now and then it will blow some semi white smoke out of the exhaust. the prior owner says it was the oil from the valve cover leaking on the manifold but that didnt sound right to me. i'm leaning towards the head gaskets going. i hope not! 
what are the main signs of head gasket failure just to recap?
how hard are they to replace on my own? ive replaced injectors, timing belts, water pumps, power steering pumps and the such but never head gaskets. i have a decent set of tools.

The headgaskets have been done, but that doesnt mean they wont go bad again, it sounds like a puff of white every now and then could be them.
