i just wish the new Tacoma had the same V8 as the 4Runner, maybe once they come out with a bigger V8 for the Tundra

Yes - a longbed DC Taco with the 4.7L V8 and a sunroof would have been the ideal vehicle for me also ......

Once current Tundra is replaced, they will put V8 in Taco - guaranteed. And Toyota will certainly make sunroof an option - need to compete with those Frontiers ....

Just to toss in my two cents worth. I am a new(er) owner of a 1999 Limited 4Runner with the awesome V6. Before I found my 4Runner, I knew I needed space for a growing family of four and the ability to handle tools and parts for work (sometimes dirty). After a lot of research I chose the 4Runner over everything else (including the Tacoma) because it is the most reliable, comfortable and dependable vehicle built.
Months later, I love it, my kids love it and my wife loves it over her newer SUV of a different make. The 4Runner is built on a truck frame and mine is still absent of all the squeaks and rattles of any comparable vehicle. The few times I do need a pickup truck, I have friends. I still believe the only thing better than owning a pickup truck is having friends with a pickup truck.

I owned a 98 Tacoma, xcab, 4wd, SR5, TRD, v6 for 9 years. It was a 1998. Can't say anthing bad about this truck. Great gas mileage, bullet proof, great on and off road handling, can even corner, but the roughest ride of the 3. Great low end torque and good pick up if that makes sense. 145,000 when sold. 20 mpg average.

I still own a 96 4runner, SR5, v6, 4wd. I've had it for almost 10 years. It is a very comfortable ride. It has 200,000 miles. Can still go off road easily. Pick up is pretty good considering it is pulling a lot more weight. I am really surprised by that, but I guess the gearing might be a little different. Same engine as the 98 tacoma. 20 mpg average

I still own a 2004 Tundra. V8. 4wd, trd, access cab, limited, 100k miles. Obviously the most powerful of the three but worst on gas mileage. 15-16 mpg on average. It is as smooth as the 4runner. Seems like it faster than all 3 on the take off but I don't know for sure. If I had to bet I'd say there is not enough of a difference that matters.

It really depends on what you want because they are perform very well and are hard to part with. My 4runner mostly sits now and I sold my Tacoma a year ago and that was hard to do. But having 4 vehicles really doesn't make sense as I do now again. (acura tl and mr2 turbo)
