Default Need Info and opinion on 2001 4runner

OK Gang, here is the skinny, we are getting rid of Melinda's POS dodge dakota and want to replace it with a 2001 4runner limited 4x4. The one she wants has everything PW, PDL, PSR, ect... the thing has 80k on the odometer and seems to be very clean, is there anything I need to watch out for or be leary of with this year and or generation of 4runner? also How capable is the stock 4wd and does it hold up to moderate conditions (not what I put the tundra thru). Has anyone ever had a sun roof leak on a factory window? I only ask this cause I have never had a sun roof on a yota but have had aftermarket ones on other vehicles that did leak. How about the powertrain, any weak points or common troubles?

I may have more questions later but any responce or info is much appreciated!!!

~Lonnie~

an 01 is a solid truck. The 3.4 is a great motor and will last for many more thousand miles as long as you take care of it. Off road it will do great. I think 01 was the last year that the 4 runners had the rear e-locker. Factory sunroofs shouldn't leak. You do need to make sure that you keep the tracks clean. I say get it if the price is right.

I have another question: the 4wd is engaged with a stick but is the front diff still got an ADD or does the front driveline stay locked in and the T-case separates 2wd and 4wd?

It has an ADD and a push button on the manual lever will engage 4hi. I actually just replaced the ADD module on my 2001. The Toyota tech said it was a common problem with them. Besides that it has been a great vechicle.

Update!!!

we didn't jump fast enough on the 01 4x4 so we ended up getting a 00 2wd limited. this one has the 3400 engine and has a good bit of zip! it has 72k on the odometer, has a CD changer, and brush guards (i'm not really a fan of the brush guards, but she likes them). The interior is very well kept with just a few minor skuffs to the dash around the glove box. it does have 4 brand new tires (still has the little fuzzy things on the tread) but I dont remember the brand or type, she took it to work so I have to wait to research that. the only complaint on the ride was a slight vibration under hard braking (it goes back sat. to get the rotors replaced).

I will post pics when I can take some this weekend.

Congrats on the new addition! You will really like the 3.4. If you are not planning on going off road the 2wd is probably better in the long run especially since snow is scarce in Myrtle Beach.
