Can I upgrade 99 4runner 15" to newer/larger 4runner wheels?

Can I upgrade 99 4runner 15" to newer/larger 4runner wheels? Hey all!

I'm a newbie here and I'm looking to upgarde my tiny 15" rims on my 1999 4runner 2WD.

Does anyone know if I can fit larger wheels (16-18") from newer models 2000 through 2006 or other models (tundra, sequoia, etc)? I want to larger rims and tires at minimal cost (probably buy used and sell mine) without replacing any other parts besides the rims.

For example, can I buy 16" 1999 4runner rims or 18" 2006 Sequoia rims and put them on easily?

Any help or advice would be great.

The wheel combinations are almost unlimited to what you can do. You budget is what will probably limit you. The easiest way to see what you can get is check out tire rack or some other wheel vendor. They usually have fitment guides that let you know what size tire you will need with a specific wheel diameter.

Thanks! However, I am talking about replacing my RIMS versus the tires (however I will be doing both). Does your reply apply to Rims or Tires or both?

My comments apply to both wheels and tires. Typically if you are going to replace your wheels, you will also replace the tires as well. If you are changing the diameter, you will have no choice, but to replace the tires.

The 16in 4runner wheels should bolt up without issue if they are on a 99 4runner. The 18in sequoia wheels will probably bolt up, but depending on the tire size, may not fit. Also the width of those wheels may be an issue as well. You may have to lift your 4 runner to get them to work.

It all comes down to what you want and how much you want to spend. If you are planning on going off road at all you may want to stay away from 18in wheels.

Incidentally, the word 'rim' is often incorrectly used to describe what is actually a wheel. The 'rim' is a part of the wheel.
