This is a discussion thread titled "05 4runner V8 real world gas mileage?", within the 4Runner forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
The computer tends to be around 1.5 to 2 mpg over hand calculating the mileage. I have 50k on our 2003 V8 4x4 and we average about 17.5 to 18mpg with mixed driving hand calc'ed with the computer showing 19.5 to 20mpg. That is also running Mobil synthetic's in the engine, transfer case and diff's.
Towing a 2,000 lb trailer at up to 75 mph, above 6,000 ft in altitude, 11 mpg. Around town, (5835 ft alt) 13 to 14 mpg. When not towing, at speeds up to 65 mph and at lower altitides, milage as high as 25 mpg. My calculations are made using miles driven/fuel used. My milage computer reads about 2 mpg high. I use Chevron regular unleaded, 85 to 87 octane with no pinging, no problems.
got 03 4runner srt5 V8, and all I can say I'm very very surprised by the fuel economy in good way,
Got 12.5-13 L / 100 km in city and 11-11.5 L / 100 km on HW, have no idea why is that so low, and what is interesting , but i dont wannt to change it, that gas prices went very very low last weeks.
