I've owned my 4 runner since 2005 and have run into some problems with the hatchback. A lot of dirt gets kicked up onto the hatchback (aerodynamic design flaw) which is causing problems with using the hatchback. Eg. the key won't always work to open the hatch or roll down the window, the wiper assembly broke off, hatchback won't close properly on first attempt. Recently I had to replace the motor that runs the electronic closure as the hatchback opened up while driving down the highway. Then it wouldn't close so I had to tie it down. The dealer said the motor had to be replaced, and I had to purchase a new one (this was not covered by warranty despite problems previously reported to the dealer regarding the hatchback). I would have installed a regular latch without the automatic feature but was told it wasn't an option. The part was very expensive. Now a few months later, again the hatch pops open while driving, and won't close again. That means nothing works right.....I can't lock the vehicle, seal it from the springtime rain, etc. Anyone else having similar problems? If so, I'd appreciate knowing what has been done, if there is a recall/warranty on this, etc.
Thanks in advance to those responding.

Hi, I just found this sight by accident, looked good so I thought I'd try it.
I have a question, I have a 2000 4runner auto V-6 3.4, and it has two oxygen sensors, could anyone tell me what the two sensors really do.

Hi there. Aaron from Sacramento. Just bought a 2001 4Runner from a friend. Upgraded from a 95 Tacoma, and my wife and I have owned several other Toyotas. My new ride has 126,000 miles on it and has been very well maintained. Never owned such a nice ride for myself, and it's my first 4WD. If anyone has any insight on how to keep it going strong, please share.

I just purchased a 2008 4runner SR5 4x4 two months ago and I absolutely love it. I do have some questions for anyone who can answer them. The tire pressure light does not want to turn off which the dealer says they can't fix because I am missing the tire jack extension so they can't check the spare tire (I bought it used and so it seems to be missing the extension). Does anyone else have a problem with this light? Does anyone know where I can get an extension for my tire jack?
I am also wondering if the 4runner has a remote starter that can be installed by a dealership? I would rather have a dealership install it for warranty reasons but if one is not offered by Toyota will it affect any of my warranty if I have one installed elsewhere?

Greeting from North Dakota, I am from Northern Maine originaly, so the winter here are more like what I saw when living in New Mexico. I have an 01 4runner and it is paid off, I hope to give it to my oldest son soon. You can drive at 14 here in ND, I know say no more. I told him when he can see over the steering wheel, we will talk. I have no mods on the truck other then a little larger tires. I had a 1987 SR5 4x4 pick up, but that maine salt used in a weak attept to melt the ice did in the box, as most state side boxes did. I ran that thing to the ground, blew a head gasket, and took it to a dealer in Canada, (closest one) the engine sounded like a dream, just the soft click of the injectors, the Canadians screwed up the timming chain and it ratteled like a model T for 10 years. When I moved to New Mexico the rusting slowed down and I drove it over Res roads for 7 more years. Let it go when I moved to ND, the frame was rotten. The 4runner is great, but it is time for some repairs. Timming belt, and they say do the water pump at the same time. Also the power stearing is hard to turn when it is cold, might be time to flush the fluid, is there an easy way to do this?

Hello everyone! I joined this morning to find out if my 5VZ-FE 1998 engine is a non interference engine. I"ve read on this site that if the timing belt breaks no damage will occur. Is this statement true? If so I will drive my 4 runner a while longer before I replace it. Sincerely Glen PS This seems like a great site!

Hello All,
Joining here as I recently bought an 08 4Runner Limited (4X4). I had been wanting one for a while, after previously owning a 93 4X4 Toyota truck for 14 years. I found a program car (Toyota executive used it for 5k mi) with may more bells and whistles than I (thought) I wanted, but at $11k off sticker. I said what the heck and am glad for my purchase. One thing I struggled over was V8 versus V6, but because there was essentially no price difference with the rebates offered at the time, I took the V8 and am glad for it.
I hope to be getting caught up on those things 4Runner that I want or need to know here. I will say thanks in advance for the useful (and other) information.
