4RunnerGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota 4Runner.
This is a discussion thread titled "Welcome to TundraSolutions.com! - New Members/4Runner Owners Introduce Yourself Here!", within the 4Runner forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
Just picked up my 03 Titanium Limited two weeks ago. So far its fantastic, probably one of the best SUV's I've driven. I think after two years of looking I've driven everything.
I tried to buy one at the start of the model year, no deals to be had. August 1 was the time to deal on an 03 and was able to get it for a steal.
Finally something to pull the S2000 with, thanks for the help in deciding on the 4Runner
Hello,
I bought my '03 V-6 4Runner a month ago today. It is quite a step up from my '88 Toyota truck. She was getting tired though, and I wanted better performance and safety.
The ride quality of this vehicle is amazingly quiet and the handling gives me confidence. The V-6 accelerates with no strain and it climbs long, steep freeway grades without needing to downshift as it stays at 2,100 rpm at 70 m.p.h. My highway mileage on a 200 mile trip to San Diego was 23.99 m.p.g.(not perfect conditions). Around town I can get around 18 m.p.g.
Its a fun to drive, quality built, safe machine.
Thanks,
DOHC
P.S. I bought my 4Runner at Hamer Toyota and not Frontier as the sidebar says.
Got my 2003 Sport, Titanium Metallic/Dark Charcoal interior, last November and have been impressed with the V-8. By the way a supercharged V-6 will hang with it. Put in a K&N and just this weekend threw on a magnaflow muffler. Much better sound.
Got my black 03 4Runner Sport Ed. V8 4x4 two months ago. 3400 miles later, I will not go back to my previous 95 Pathfinder SE. The V8 power compared to the Pathfinder's 3-liter V-6 is like comparing day to night.
New to the board, but had the runner for a few years. I have a 93 that I'm in love with again after deciding not to sell it. I don't know what I was thinkin! Glad to be here!!!
Hey all, what a great site this is! I don't have a 4-runner yet ( waiting till the end of summer 04 to get a good year end deal! ) , but I've already made my decision about engine (V-8 !!) and trim (Sport) , but many of the dealers in NJ list their inventory with codes only. Does anyone know the color code for galactic grey?? I'ts funny how the proces around here suddenly go up a little after a snowstorm...and the sad part is...a lot of suckers fall for it...sheesh, Jersey drivers, I'm a native, but how embarrassing..one little speck of snow and everyone panics....I love it!! Well thanks for all the info and I look forward to all the great tech talk and advice!
Just posting a hello for my sister, proud owner of a new '04 4Runner with lots of toys. She loves it. Bets the heck out of the X-Terra she traded for it.

well, it's the wifes new ride! we've had it since friday and the 250+ miles on the odo have been all mine. i wrote a quick review on THIS thread if you haven't seen it already.
to all of the new folks on here...you'll definitely enjoy being a part of TS!WELCOME TO THE SITE!! i look forward to hearing from all of you 4runner owners.
btw, i was also another lucky Dianne customer!! look out for my "kudos to Dianne/Linda" thread when i get some more time to post.
I finally got the courage to trade in my Red 1996 Camaro Z-28 and got a 2004 4Runner SR5 V8 (titanium metallic/stone). I drove it home last Friday night. The SUV has the following options:
- 17 inch aluminum wheels
- Double decker cargo system with trunk & deck carpet and cargo net
- black roof rack and cross bar
- leather wrap steering wheel with cruise control & audio
- daytime running light
- carpet mat set (5 piece)
Bought my 2004 4runner sport V8 (silver) 4x4 last thurday. Traded my 95 Landcruiser with 136K miles on it. I look at the 4th generation 4runner as the replacement for the FZJ80 Landcruiser (93-97 model years). It is very close to the same size and has the same, can do anything feel. I looked at the 100 series Landcruisers (1998 - 2004) but they are way too luxury oriented and way to big and heavy. They weigh 1000lbs more than my 4runner and have the same engine, transmission, and transfer case. I'm impressed. I also have a new 350Z when I want to go real crazy.
Thats right, bit the bullet. I got it specially ordered so we won't get it till around Tuesday night but it has exactly what we want. It is Natural White, 4wd, 4.0 VVTI, Smoke cloth interior, 115 etc......, Moonroof, 17's are the interesting things. Drove everything, seriously, like 10 suv's, finally went back to Toyota. I've had several before including a 4Runner but of the 86 model year and did everything to it to include a SAS. Oh well, won't hppen to this one for a few years but I'm stoked!!!!
Well, we owned a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer that only had 51,000 miles and it was starting to fall apart, one problem after another. That was the deciding factor since I'm in the military and we are going to Germany for the next 4 years. I actually had to order and wait for a part, ground shipment takes at least a month to get to Germany so we decided we wanted something more reliable.
We decided to test drive, we drove:
Escape, Tribute, Explorer, CRV, Pilot, Murano, Pathfinder, Xterra, Highlander, Rav4, and the 4Runner. We made the mistake of driving the 4Runner first, and it never left our memories. It just seems to be built at a higher standard than the rest, you can feel it when your going over bumps and accelerating. If you want me to break down which cars were the worst I could for you. I pretty much had decided I wasn't buying a domestic so the escape, tribute, and explorer were just to drive Mazda's owned by ford and all there engines are ford now so I wasn't interested in the tribute. Out of the rest listed the Xterra stood out as worst gas milage, and it was smaller than most.
Now why can I wait till tuesday? Its hard, trust me, but I have a wife and two kids who are enjoying Easter this morning with me and we went to the beach and played and surfed yesterday so time is flying until I go to work on Monday They also gave us a top of the line Camry until they deliever the vehicle, I mean top of the line, its pretty bad$%#!j
You where all over the place cute-utes and midsize, glad to see you enjoying your holiday and the Camry is a sweet car, I think it gets a bad rap but after you get behind the wheel it more then grows on you, I have an 03 ES300 and that car just keeps getting sweeter and sweeter, once I got a loaner Camry, 4banger LE with just the basics and although the car was nice the engine felt alright, weak compared to what Im use to, and the ride was way soft with those 15 inch wheels they put on it, Buick soft.
Anyways if you have time I would like to know why you decided against the Escape, Tribute, CRV, Pilot, Murano, Pathfinder, Xterra, Highlander, Rav4 and for kicks the Explorer, asides from the history the Explorer has presented us with it does look nice when new but they don't stay that way for long and Im not to into the current stylings of it, I would not touch 1 all of my friends have gotten rid of them.
