Now I'm sure all of you will think this is funny. I traded an 04' Matrix XRS for my new 4Rrunner Limited. Talk about opposite ends of the world! This truck is simply the best vehicle I have ever owned. Smooth, refined, impressive. Only drawback is the lack of a 6-disc changer with the factory Nav unit and I would like more stereo power and better speakers which I'm working on.
I've owned a 89 sr5 4x4, 94' 4runner, a 97' landcruiser, and various GMC trucks and by far this truck is my favorite in all areas. Of course my girlfriend is not too fond of it because I have spent more time with the truck then her since I picked it up. Oh well!
Right on, my g/f is a little jealous of the attention I give to my truck...so that's why here seat belt is always giving her problems when she rides with me. Lets see some pictures. Don't worry about the lack of speaker power, the speakers unless you want to shake windows can be easily fixed by adding in a better AMP that can push the needed power, but if you going to get the AMP anyway and take apart your baby then speakers would only be a marginal expense. All rigthiiiieeeeeeeeee .... Have had my '05 Sport 4WD V8 for almost 2 weeks now. 500+ miles, 500 more to go for a nice easy break-in. So far so great ! Love the power and solid feel of it.
My old 1988 S-10 4.3L had no juice left after about 55mph, had to downshift out of overdrive to D to get any real acceleration. Now I've got all kinds of horsies even after 75mph
Coupla small complaints - lack of storage nooks/crannies - always like to carry jumper cables, various tools, better lug wrench/jack, etc. Guess the 10-speaker JBL took up the passenger side storage corner with the subwoofer/amp assembly. The simple solution is to just put it all in a box in the back - maybe get a better cargo area holder of some sorts too.
Also NOT impressed at all with the sound (JBL - 10-spkr/6cd changer) - speakers need to be higher up near my ears. Sounds like the music is centered around the gear shift area about 2 feet below my head Not sure what's the best route on that for an upgrade. See lotsa notes about installing the Scion head unit, yet it not working with the changer ? Though that doesn't affect the speaker placement/sound. My old S10 pickup had speakers in the top of the dash and rear pillars almost at ear level - sounded pretty good after I upgraded everything.
OK, so we've had a Tundra LTD since 2002 and now we have a BRAND NEW gray 2005 4Runner Sport with sun roof, V8, etc. Only have 100 miles on it but so far it looks to be just like the Tundra - that is, a real winner. Traded in a Subaru WRX for the 4Runner. I'm getting too old to scruntch down in the Subie. It was great fun but the 4Runner has lots of pep and way more room. Bought it at Berlin City in Gorham, NH. Never been there before and did the whole deal over the phone. No pressure and very aggressive pricing and good trade in. All without the usual "I'll have to go check with my manager" B***sh**t. So, so far a happy owner. Next mods? Maybe better speakers. Did not get the JBL system and wish I could get the 6CD in-dash changer like the Tundra has without the rest of the upgrades but that's a no-go. OTher than that I don't think I could add much.

Sounds like a pretty fair deal to me. I got the new 4R with V8, 4X4 etc for around $29K

I purchased a new 2005 4 Runner Ltd. V/8 ( 4 wheel drive) and it is one of the best of any car I have ever owned. I have Cadillac's, Chevies, Premier Eagle, and too many others you younger folks would not know of as most of them have gone out of business. However, after owning a 1988 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 1994 G. Cherokke, 2000, and 2004 Jeep Gd, Cherokee, which all had problems along the way, I fed up trying to get the dealer to fix the road noise transfer into the cabin, I shopped for a different SUV and after driving the 05 4 Runner, that was it. I Haven't looked back since May of this year. I even went back to a Jeep dealer again before buying the 4 Runner, just to make sure the 2005 was better then the 2004, which by the way had only 6100 miles on it, and it was as bad as the one I had, noisy and had a stiff ride. I have no complaints after logging in 7200 miles.
The 4 Runner gives me 17.6 MPG in the city. Fit and finish is great. Engine performance is terrific, with plenty of punch when you hit the throttle.
The cabin is quiet, seats are comfortable and the dash layout is very good. The stero, disc radio is one of the best have had in a long time.
I have to agree with a post about the position of the door and window switches. They are a bit low and should be higher on the door. The garage door operator should be lighted and is hard to find in the dark coming into garage. Other than these mionor things, I have nothing bad to say about this SUV. One hell of a SUV!
I have an 05 Sport V8 Stratosphere blue (I think thats what its called.) So far all I have is JDM tails, K&N panel filter and Silverstar bulbs. Much more to come along the way after I determine which route to take with the truck.
Hello. I just bought a used 2002 with low mileage. I was going to purchase new but the price was right for this used one and I prefer the 3rd generation body style. This is my second 4runner. I owned a 1991 but sold it for a twin turbo sports car in 1993. I should have never test drove that car. However, I drove it off road as well (limited to mud, snow, and sand dunes) - since it was an all wheel drive. Dumb thing to do - glad to be back to the 4runner, I can't stay away from off road adventures.
Hi everyone,
Got my truck in July, a Galactic Gray SR5 with that sweet V8. Already thinking 33 inch tires 2.5 inch lift all around and a performance chip. (there is just never enough power). Speaking of mods, which two wires on the MAF are for the IAT sensor? Specifically which two wires does the IAT use to send air temp info to the ECU from the MAF?
