Default Re: 2006 4Runner V6 4.0L Engin Tick

Cause: Ticking sound coming from the inside of the manifolds

2 17173-0P010 Gasket, Exhaust Manifold
1 17140-0P070 Manifold Assy, Exhau
1 17050-0P070 Manifold Assy, Exhau

Or Could be

170021 Manifold
170521 Manifold

Did not know which one it was, but here are the part numbers. Flashgordon, sorry about the delay. New position at work keeping me busy. Let me know when you are in the area.

If anyone has this done, please post your story. Mine worked out great!

Good Luck!

First post. just got my 2007 4 runner (not 4x4 and is the v6). I noticed a light ticking a 120 miles [not 120 miles an hour (still in the break in)]. Do you feel the problem has subsided completely?
New truck! Don't want no stinking ticking!

Thanks!

OK, here is my thought on this situation.

The manifolds did help tremendously!!! I also feel that this engine is going to always have the ticking characteristics. Being that it is all aluminum and that the valve geometry and lift duration are variable. This engine also has that of what appears to be very similar to solid lifters. The chatter and or tick seems to vary with these conditions. If the engine is pushed harder, the lift and duration change as well as the ignition timing. It seems like the engine learns your driving habits and uses the VVT-I system to adapt. Like wise is driven ginger with moderate acceleration the system will not engage and it seems more quiet.

If I am even close to being right then this would be some of the different ticking or chatter we are all hearing about or experiencing. Now add the fact that normally Toyota injectors are a bit noisy and would resonate very well through aluminum. This in conjunction with noise emitions solenoids and timing chains add up to a noisy engine. The manifold suppress this noise that resonates through the block and heads and are well worth it if this chatter bothers you.

Well I could type all night! I hope this helps.

Despite the noise I must say that I am impressed with the performance of this engine and vehicle.

The vehicle has about 12,000 miles on it and at about 8-9,000 miles the engine began to develop a noticeable tick.
Common for the V6 (when you are next to a wall like in an alley). My 04 did that too, seemed to get loader at 60K miles but I'm sure it was me. No fix as far as I know, and not a problem.
