Re: Installing 6CD http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/atJBL Head Unit and JBL Amp
As some people might have guessed. It did not take long before I wondered how the 10'' SUB would sound if I had some real power going to it. I looked around, and found that MTX has a new line of small, no frill amplifiers that can produce some good power. I decided to go with the entry model TC2002 for it's small size ,and it's feature to automatically turn on and off with the speaker signals from the JBL amp. There was no space for a large to medium size amp anywhere near the JBL amp location behind the glove box, or under the front seats. I wanted to keep the amp under the dash, and off the floor for better air circulation so here is what I came up with. I made a mounting bracket out of ABS plastic, and secured it with small steel plates at three locations, and used existing bolts to mount it, that I found in the area of the photos. I leave some photos of how the amp looks installed, and I'm very satisfied with the performance of the amp. It has evened out the volume inside the van; where before most of the sound was coming from the front speakers, with the rear speaker sounding weaker. The MTX amp just powers the sub woofer, and I used a 2-channel model to drive a dual cone sub, but you can get a mono channel version with the same dimensions. This amp came with a remote gain control knob, and allows me to have the amp give the rear speakers that little boost with the family listening to the music...or have all the windows shaking when I drive the van alone.
