The block heater is used to keep engine coolant warm in cold climates, so the coolant will not freeze and crack the engine block. It also aids the heater in warming you inside the vehicle when first started.
This heater usually takes the place of anengine block freeze plug. It has a cord on it.
You have to plug this cord into an electrical outlet, usually with an extension cord.
During warms months, you just dont plug it in and it does nothing but sit there waiting for winter to arrive.
It can be usually be added if not equipped.
The only stupid question, is one you DON'T ask.
