Well, I have been in the xB scene for a while now, and they have the same problem. After some of our members did some extensive research on this issue, they found that it is not that the glass is weaker or thinner as we all thought. It is simply the slope of the windshield. I have owned 7 jeeps, and replaced windshields on every single one of them (some multiple times). Instead of a rock deflecting, the windshield takes the whole impact.
