Default Re: You're doing an oil change on a new Truck?

Well, this thread is amusing, but seriously, have you ever found shavings or anything like that in used oil from a new Toyota?

I used to do something like this, but have come around to the way of thinking that if you're planning to change to synthetic oil, it's best to leave the original oil in the engine for the specified time or mileage, then switch to Mobil 1. After the switch to synthetic oil, very little engine wear occurs. That sounds pretty good, but you do want the engine to "break in". The original oil (which is of very good quality) will permit break-in to occur.

I've followed this program for several new Toyotas; I've never seen any particles of any sort in the oil at 5000 miles. Then I put the Mobil 1 in and follow 5000 mile change intervals. At 100,000 miles, the oil I change looks and feels just as good as that which I changed at 10,000 miles (I'm just trying to say that the engine is happy with this plan; no discernible wear, good performance in every way).
