I've never subscribed to that theory. My understanding was that synthetic oil simply lasts longer since it resists thermal breakdown and shearing better. By that reasoning its only better for intense or high mileage use. Of course, I use synthetic since I tend to drive fairly hard, and I usually go 3000-5000 miles between oil changes. But fresh dino and synthetic oil of the same viscosity shouldn't prevent wear any differently.
