Looking at the ignition set up, I occurs to me that those plug wires would wear out twice as fast on this engine as those on a V6 with six plug wires. On this one it look like the plugs must fire twice each revolution. That would be the equivalent of about 160,000 miles on the wires.
Any other ideas?

Assuming that you are still running the oem spark plugs, it may be time for them to be re-gapped or a complete new set. This is based on my experience that the oem plugs tended to wear out extremely quickly until I upgraded to double platinum plugs. As the gap widens, the truck definitely gets harder to start.. but once started it usually ran ok until the plugs got really bad.
