I'm so glad I found these posts - I've got a ton of questions I just can't seem to find out anywhere...

Where would I find out how to bypass the emergency brake feature so I can program the Nav while in Drive

How did they route sound to all 10 of your speakers? Can all 10 speakers be hooked up without any additional modules?

DId you get the XM module? IF so, are you ok with the looks of having two black antenna wires routed to your roof?

Where did you mount your antenna?

Sorry for all the questions. I've got to make a decision in the next 24 to 48 hours of whether to go ahead and add the stock Nav system or leave the order as it is without a Nav. TX.
I didn't get the XM, though I may add it at some point.

I have the Z1 in our Sequoia, not our Tundra. The antennea is mounted on the roof above the rear lift-gate; folks don't even notice it.

My Z1 does have the e-brake feature, and it's hooked up according to the Pioneer specifications. If I turn the headlights on and off three times as soon as I start up the system, and that's all done before the "pioneer logo" appears on the screen (three one second pulses), all of the safety features are bypassed - so it's possible for the passenger to use the DVD player and/or program the Nav system while the vehicle is in motion.

There are some after-market fixes that basically build in a module to create that triple pulse without having to do it muanually before the drive. I haven't bothered with those, because I don't need the system to work like that most of the time. If I'm going on a long trip, or a trip into unfamiliar territory, I can make fuss with the headlights before getting under way.

Note: Some of the aftermarket solutions only work on pre-July 2006 units. Also, the above described procedure will not work if the unit has a DVD in the drive.

I'm afraid I can't answer how the sound was routed to the speakers. A friend of mine owns a local stereo store chain, and he's got some very gifted installers. I upgraded the sound system substantially by adding power, a better sub, and better speakers w/seperates. The Sequoia is a GREAT sound box/platform, and the new system is amazing, but I can't tell you how they did the wiring. (Now I just have to figure out how to keep all the stuff IN my rig, as I live in the car-theft capital of the USA .)

Here's a link with some more info: AVIC411.com :: Index

and another: SMinnTech.com Z1 Manual Flashing

The Z1 is sophisticated/powerful/multi-talented. If you don't need all those features the factory system may be just fine. I'm leaning towards installing the factory system in the Tundra because my wife doesn't want "all that trick stuff" in her truck - and the factory system is only $1700.

Good luck.
