Default Re: Magnaflow muffler or complete exhaust system

I just installed a Banks system. it bolts up directly behind the resonator. Less than an hour to install. My stock aluminized system was corroding with the salty roads pretty badly. I almost went with a Magnaflow muffler, but it was going to be welded in with steel wire and a friend had recommended the Banks system.

I have read all the talk about how increasing the pipe diameter would hurt midrange torque, but I had heard otherwise. I drive across the mountains every day, so I knew it would be a good test.

With the stock exhaust system, I would climb the hill in third gear, overdrive off. If my speed got down to 45 MPH, it was hard to accelerate back to 50 MPH without downshifting to 2nd and wasting gas, so I was always gingerly accelerating, unlocking the torque converter, but trying not to hit the downshift point on the throttle position sensor.

After installing the exhaust, I can go from 40-65 MPH uphill easily without downshifting, because the throttle position is not close to the shift point. I have more midrange torque, not less.

At wide open throttle it accelerates to redline, like a 32-valve V8 is supposed to. I highly recommend the Banks exhaust system. They have engineers that know what they're doing. They didn't just throw it together.

It is somewhat noisy, but my son didn't notice the difference with the stereo off until I mentioned it to him. I won't bother telling the wife...
