Yep, looks like they changed the tune of that article at pickuptruck.com.

This reminds me a bit of the sludge debate a couple of years ago. There was all this bad press about the 3.0L engine (which I never had a problem with in my Highlander). Yet apparently there were 3,000 engines out of 3.3 MILLION that were affected by sludge. This is a very small fraction of engines (0.1%)!

So far, 30 engines out of 30,000 is also 0.1%. Just goes to show you how the internet can really hype a topic.

Anyway, it looks like Toyota will come to the plate for anyone who runs into this unfortunate problem.

I too would like to know how to find the actual date of production. Mine was built in Indiana in 03/07.
