When comparing a gas and diesel engine of similar size, the gas engine STILL looses pretty bad in both power and efficiency. This months 'Diesel Power' magazine has a good artilce comparing the Ford V-10 Superduty with a Powerstroke Superduty and the gas engine gets killed in all respects.
The gas engines have closed the gap some, thanks entirely to the EPA  , but they still have a way to go to compare to diesels.

This is why im STILL mulling over getting a diesel, an older one at that (possibly a 99-02 powerstroke with the rock solid 7.3L). Best I can estimate I will be towing around 60% of the time, but as I can see it, it wont be more than 5-6k. Sure the Tundra and Silverado can do it but that whole 9MPG thing while towing still haunts me...
