I can't imagine what would happen if Toyota and Nissan start coming out with diesel engines in their trucks. Americans are becoming foreign phobic and any problem in the country is blamed on a foreign hand. The big three sure would be pulling their hair out if Toyota came out with one of its excellent diesel powerplants in its truck. Toyota can introduce a lot of models in the US which would probably decimate the domestic auto industry. You can read posts of GM dealers getting mad at Toyota and corporate GM etc.
Peoples attitudes towrds anything foreign needs to change and people should stop listening to radio talk shows which currently are running this country.
