Default Temperature Gage missing in 2007 Sequoia

Hi,
My dad has been driving a Sequoia since 2002. He loved the car so much that he decided to buy a new model this year. One feature that he didn't realize will not be included in the new model is the built in temperature gage, which tells you the outside temperature fairly accurately. His 2002 model had it built into the mirror. It was a useful feature when driving in snowy conditions up north.

He's very disappointed that he doesn't have it. He took the car to the Toyota dealers and they told him it would cost $2400 to install it because they have to run the wires under the hood. I don't believe it.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get a temperature gage installed in the new vehicle?

Thanks
