My dealer wont fix it!
I went to my dealer (R&G Toyota in San Rafael, CA) and complained about the front brake vibrations. At 14,000 miles, my brakes have vibrated for about six months, but I didn't know about the TSB until last week. My dealer told me my front pads were worn (despite 14000 highway miles only) and that the vibration was from "poor heat dissipation."
I told him I knew about the TSB, and he said he did too, so he would order the parts. When I went in to pick up the truck, after reciving a call that it was ready, I was told that Toyota Engineers had measured my calipers with a micrometer, and they were "within specs." I would have to pay $350 for a front brake job, and they would not perform the TSB.
He told me that the original parts are "always" better, and that the TSB parts were just because Toyota is always changing their parts. I pointed out the fact that the TSB says the calipers have been "improved." He did not agree.
I paid for the brake job, and the vibrating is better (for the time being). I want to know if there really were any Toyota Engineers there. What did they measure? The replacement parts are redesigned, not just a replacement for a part that may be "out of spec," right?
