Default Re: Good mpg!

My experience is that on my first tank I got 18.4 mpg , second tank was 17.4 , then 16.9 then 16.5 . after that it was mostly 16'swithan occasional 17 and a couple mid 15's . I kept wondering why the first two tanks were so much better because I was driving pretty much the same route . So a couple of days ago I decided that I'd try premium gas . Driving virtually the same route as before . My mileage jumped from 16.5 to 17.9 , enough of an increase to make the premium slightly more cost effective . Of couse that's a one tank experiment so far , but the change to premium is the only change I made . I definitely did not see more highway miles on the tank of premium . I believe that I read one poster on this forum state that the computer is sophisticated enough to detect the increased octane and advance the timing to take advantage of it . The 5.7 does have a 10/1 compression ratio so it makes sense . So far I'm a believer . Filled up with premium again . As long as it's only 20 cents more I'll continue the experiment .
