Default Re: 4Runner Head Gasket Recall??

Hi guys,

My story is similar to tjelly's(below). I bought a '95 4runner a while back from one of the local auctions. Unfortunately I didn't notice the misfire until after I bought the thing. I did a compression test and one cylinder is at 10, while the others are right around 170. This car has 113k on the odometer and is in pretty good shape overall. Other then a possible/known headgasket issue, I don't see any other reason a Toyota will have 10 compression in one cylinder.

However, I called my dealer just now and basically got the exact same response as tjelly. My Vin# doesn't fall within the range of cars covered. It's build date is 3/95, but I'm not sure what date ranges are covered. Any help with that? Any advice on how to get this covered would be a great help.

If anyone of you can run the Vin# and see what you guys can come up with, it would be very appreciated:

Thanks in Advance.

Dear Mr. Jelly:

Thank you for your recent email.

Please be assured that we certainly do not like to see our customers experience the frustration and inconvenience that is associated with unexpected repairs. However, we would like to mention that extensive planning and research is required in order to ensure the highest quality of components are used on our vehicles. Unfortunately, it is difficult to establish the life expectancy of a component or predict when a failure will occur. There are many variables that will contribute to their durability.

Please be advised that currently, the only outstanding campaign on your vehicle is #514- STEERING RELAY ROD 4 RUNNER & TRUCK. For more information, and to have this campaign serviced free of charge, please contact a Toyota dealership.

We would also like to take this opportunity to advise that Toyota and its franchised dealerships are vitally interested in customer satisfaction and are dedicated to delivering the utmost in service. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this has caused you. It is most unfortunate that this experience has also resulted in you considering the purchase of another make of vehicle. We hope to be able to regain your trust in the future.

Mr. Jelly, your feedback is very important to us, and we have noted your comments and have forwarded them to the appropriate departments within Toyota Canada Inc. for information purposes.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact us.

Sincerely,

Alice McNamee
Toyota Canada Inc.

I purchased a used 1995 4runner 3 weeks ago and now have a blown head
gasket. I am extremely upset because I have spent 5000$ of my hard earned
and long saved money to buy this. I am finding out that the 3.0L v6 is well
known for head gasket problems and has recalls on it. The dealer says they
wont honour it. I am getting extimates around $2500 to fix this including
the other damage it caused and now i cant aford to repair or replace my
great new 1st and last toyota I will ever buy. Just wanted to see if you
can do anything regarding your defective head gaskets you sold for years. I
liked my 4runner for the whole 2 weeks i got to drive it.
