Re: paint Help
I also have the salsa red on my 2005 tundra double cab. When it was 5 months old and had only 1200 miles on it, my wife drove it about 600 miles in winter weather. She drove through a pass in Idaho that had been graveled due to weather conditions. I had washed the pickup before she left, and again when she returned. The was not one chip on the truck when she left. When she returned, there were several hundred chips on the truck. The majority of them are on the hood and behind the rear wheels and the leading edge of the rear bumper, but I also have them on the sides and roof of the vehicle. I also experience easy scratching. I took it to the dealer and after several months, a factory rep looked at it. He said it was normal and not warrantable. He commented on the fact that my undercarriage was heavily chipped also. I had noticed when it was new that the frame and driveline had very thin, if not missing, paint, but did not think anything of it at the time. Now, they used that as part of their determination to reject my complaint. If I would have known about the paint issues, I would have taken it back completely. I finally broke down and bought touch up paint a couple days ago since I plan on selling the truck because of the paint. I just found this site today and decided to vent. I also lodged a complaint with the factory, but they said unless they get enough complaints, it is not considered an issue. Tim
