It does seem quite protective, though
. Dogs, cats, small scooters would be bouncing off of that thing. I have always heard, though, that deer and the like will actually cause more damage when it hits a grille guard and warps it in.
I'm afraid the choice will likely be highly functional and fugly like that one or largely decorative. Take your pick. Give it some time for custom ones to hit the market. I'm sure it depends on the number of vehicles out there to potentially sell to.
