I had the same problem and tried the backer rod solution. Didn't work. Tried stuffing another piece in there, still didn't work. The squeak in my truck sounds as if it's coming from the middle of the dash against the windshield. It only does it when it's below 50 degrees or so, so I haven't had to worry about it for the last 6 months. With the return of cold weather, the squeaking is back.

Last year I determined that the squeak is coming from the defrost vent that blows on the windshield. If I stick my fingers through the holes in the dash I can feel the vent vibrating like crazy while going down the road. If I hold the vent steady, the squeak goes away. Now it's just a matter of figuring out out to fix it. I'm off work Monday, so maybe I'll get around to working on it then.
