I know that sensation well from 13" M/T slicks on an old V8 H-body. Feels like someone suddenly hits the car on the rear quarter panel. The whole rear end jumps sideways.
No, the Drag Radials have full sidewalls and drive just like a normal street tire. They are basically a performance street tire with a full slick compound on the tread. The only thing that gets you is wear. If you drive them daily, they are on cords after only a season or so.
Another thing to watch for with Drag Radials is the break in period (the BFG brand anyway). When you first get them, they will not have any better traction than a normal street radial. You will be very disappointed at first, but after a few weeks of daily commute, they soften up and stick like glue. They are about half way in between a full on slick and a good street tire for dragstrip traction, which is more than enough for most people at the track.
Another thing to watch is thermal cycling. This is not an issue for most people, but don't drive them in the snow or in cold weather, then try to use them for racing. The sudden temperature change will screw up the rubber and make them spin like a cheap street radial on wet pavement.
