I do plan to upgrade but only if the new version works on my vehicle and contains enough improvement to justify the time and cost. This is obvious so there was no need to elaborate.

Testing the new DVD at the dealership with the dealer's permission is not theft. It is true that you need to remove power to the NAV to clear the firmware, and it might be possible to use the new firmware with the old maps.
