Here's what is on the Toyota site..
Toyota Tacoma Truck - 2008 Performance & Specifications

It says, "Maximum towing capacity 3500 lb."

The Honda Ridgeline says, "5,000-lb. towing capacity (with towing package)"

FWIW... the Tundra long bed V6 is also rated for 5,000 lb.

AND ...the Ridgeway tailgate has a 300-lb. dynamic load capacity

I would rather have the Ridgeline over the Tacoma... I think it's a better deal..

It is 3500lbs for reg cab, access cab 2x4, and x-runner trim. All 4x4, pre-runner 2x4, and all double cab models, have a max tow capacity of 6500lbs.
Around here, that means most Tacos you see driving around have a 6500lb tow capacity.
I have a MDX, same platform as the Ridgeline, it is a great car!
