Have you checked to make sure your "park" interlock switch is intact? IIRC, the ignition is set up so that you can not turn the key if it is not in Park (or maybe neutral too?). Anyway, try wiggling the shifter when you are turning the key, maybe the interlock is not quite getting switched by the tranny shifter. Also, try turning the steering wheel back and forth a smidge, while turning the key, in case there is pressure on the steering wheel lock causing it to bind.
