Re: DIY: Oil Change w/ pics. & Reset Maintenance Required Light
Anyone else run into issues with their oil filter flute slipping? I have a metal one. I'm going to see what the dealership has. I bought a 65mm.
The dealership didn't sell any special tool. They said try napa. I bought another one at Napa and it slipped as well. I finally grabbed a 1/2" torque wrench drive for leverage (It was the only handled ratchet that I had). THis helped a lot but it still wasn't easy. I had to push hard up against the oil flute wrench with my left hand and pull on the torque wrench with my right hand.
Getting skid plate back on
My skid plate actually went on pretty easy. I rested it on a padded creeper. I put two bolts in the front (just slightly threaded in ) then move to the back and this enabled me to see in between the plate and the mounting holes so that I could more easily line things up.
One last question. I found a metal washer in my oil filter kit box. Does anyone know what this is for? It is to replace whatever washer is on the oil drain plug? Or maybe it was just in the box by mistake? The instructions on the box didn't address what this washer was for. They only spoke of the rubber washers.
