I will agree the Helix is a waste of money. However the oil on a K+N type filter does not ruin the MAF. A fine coating can form, but is easily cleaned off. A properly oiled K+N filter for example will not harm the MAF, been running one for 200,000 mi, serviced every 50,000 and still have the original MAF. I clean the MAF every 20,000 mi with MAF cleaner spray available at the local auto parts store (takes about 5 min to do, real easy). There are a number of posts on cleaning a MAF. An over-oiled filter can cause grief as the MAF will get coated quickly and not work properly, but is is easily cleaned as mentioned. The trick is to carefully follow the oiling instructions that come with the filter, more is not better in this case.
The stock intake is good, however has a restriction that is easily fixed see the post on the "Engine and Drivetrain" forum called "Stock Airflow Numbers and Mod".
