Actually there is a safeguard to prevent your foot from getting caught up in it. The step is pressure sensitive. I believe in the brain it measures the motor current draw which would increase in the event that something is obstructing the board. As you will see after you install them, by simply keeping your foot on the step and close the door, the board will sense the weight of your foot and not close. The technican at AMP told us that even if you were to manage to get your hand caught in it, the sensor is so sensitive that it will sense the resistence and immediately withdraw the step back down.
