Re: Oil filled from the Factory?
Hi All
Yes, I do work for Nippon as mentioned previously. I just found this thread off an internet search so I figured I offer the information I know. You don't have to believe me, just take it as someone's opinion if you don't trust who I am.
Not ALL of a car manufacturer's oil comes from one company alone. So as far as I know, Toyota COULD have synthetics coming from Castrol (although I doubt they do). However, all the 0W-20 coming from the factory as well as the red bottle genuine oil are produced by either Nippon Oil or Mobil.
They are produced for Toyota, so it's a Toyota product, not a Nippon Oil branded or Mobil branded product. You will find a Mobil1 (Mobil brand) 0W-20 as well as our own ENEOS 0W-20 (Nippon brand). You are right though, different plants are supplied by different oil company. I believe we supply a majority of the plants except the one in south carolina (not 100% sure on locaton). That one is Mobil.
Does Nippon Oil offer conventional oil? Yes. For the ENEOS brand, there's only one synth blend in the US market (5W-30). Does Nippon Oil offer conventional 0W-20 oil? No. All 0W-20 produced are synthetic, especially the ones produced for Toyota. They mandate it.
Does dealers sometimes not know what they are talking about? Absolutely. This is by personal experience. For example, if you call a car manufacturer's customer service line directly, lets say Nissan, and ask them if using a different oil then what is recommended will void your warranty, they will tell you absolutely not. Unless they can determine that it is due to the usage of a different oil that causes whatever damage you are claiming under warranty, they cannot tell you your warranty is voided. On the other hand if you ask a dealer service writer the same question, the answer might be quite different.
One final note. Nippon Oil has our own blending plant here in the US (Childersburg Alabama) which blends the lubricants required for factory and G.O. service. However, for the ENEOS products, they are actually all bottled overseas and shipped here. The reason being we just launched this product in the US market and production is still all sourced from Japan.
