First, my '05 D-cab wouldn't fit in my garage (executive ranch w/ garage under the living room - only 80.5" ceiling). So I'm not concerned about wheelbase or bumper-to-bumper dims, just height. Hell I probably couldn't fit a new Taco in my garage (damned house was built in the '60's when even 4x4's were short - and rare). But everyone saying that the new CM and D-cabs are "so long", my '05 is 1" longer than either the D-cab w/ 6.5' bed or CM.
I wouldn't bank on the CM w/ 6.5' bed until their engine options change (or mileage improves). CAFE standards is why they've held off the CM w/ longer bed options. Increased vehicle lenght and weight will impact GVWR and mileage...reducing their compliance w/ CAFE (and the increasing stinginess).
By the way, had to pull the reigns back on my new CrewMax. Banking on a late spring or early summer deal if things go well (just changed jobs, finances, etc.). Damned it!!!!
