I had the same thing happened to my 2000 LTD 3.4 a few years back only when I start it would happen; no CEL would come on but when I took it in to the dealer, they diagnosed it as the Idler Speed Control Valve (ISC) going bad. Once they replaced it, no problems ever since. Costed about $250+. Hope this helps.
