Zpaul, if you're getting the same thing, then there might be something about the hex editors that fail to preserve the integrity of the LOADING.KWI file. One way to check this would be to open the original file in the hex editor, make a change to one word or something, save it, and then change it back. If the hex editor works perfectly, then the LOADING.KWI file should be back to its original state.

Thanks for the offer of the dual-sided DVDs. I don't give up easily, though, so I'll probably get another pack and burn through them, eventually. I'll probably wait until I can display DVD video on the nav by doing Wile E's mod whenever he is finished documenting it.

Unless a purchased hardware interface has its own video display function I'm pretty sure the "Check surroundings for safety" text will still appear. If someone has done it and posts the results here, it would be appreciated.
