I came up with this idea because I needed to mount my amps without losing my under-seat storage. This is really a simple mod that can be done in less than an hour if you have all the tools ready to go.
You will need a 14mm wrench. Socket preferred.
Jig saw with metal cutting blade. Hack saw works too.
Star Bit (6 pointed driver)
That's it!
1.
Remove your rear seats. There are 6 14mm bolts holding the seats bolted down. One the floor and one against the back wall for each seat leg/support. Fold the seats up when you do this. When all the bolts are removed, pull up on the entire seat panel to unhook the brackets from the seat backs.
2.
Remove the seat back hooks using the star bit. There are 4.
3.
Cut off 2.5cm (inside measure) from each hook. Cut it at an angle or it will get stuck often as I found out initially. Also, if you reverse the angle compared to my cut, the seat back will have too much play so don't say I didn't warn you.
4.
After all the brackets are cut to the same size, reinstall your brackets to the seats and bolt your seats back down.
5.
Revel in your genious!=D
Here are a few pics of my finished install.
This is the normal position, works like normal.
This is normal also.
Now to do this, lift the seat bottom upward while pulling the seat back forward. When it is approximately 45*, the back will unhook and flip forward. Now you have seat back storage.
* Some observation. There is about 2.5inches of space when everthing is folded up. If the seat is down, there is like 4 inches. Plenty of space for 3" high amps. Also, your seat bottom storage box doesn't go all the way back so you will be regaining that lost space back.
This is a simple mod that anyone can do while you are waiting for wifey to make dinner! =)
Have fun.
