Which saves what, precisely? Replacing a filter requires a minute or two, so it doesn't save any time that makes it worthwhile. You'll be back to get other parts (oil filters, spark plugs, etc.) so it doesn't save any time at the parts counter that makes it worthwhile. Cleaning it now and then requires one hell of a lot more work and time than replacing it.

Methinks it ought to do something really worthwhile before it is worth your while, and I fail to see what that something is. It adds risk, cost, and labor, all without benefit.

That's why I don't use one. It ain't broke, so I don't fix it. The OEM Toyota filter does a fine job, it's inexpensive, and I'm content to replace it now and then. After 111,xxx miles, it still doesn't burn any oil between changes, and I'm quite satisfied.
