Default Re: New Stebel 300 Hz Truck Horn

current draw is less than 18 amps. just cause the relays are 30 amp doesn't mean that's what you need to plan for. 12 gauge wire at 8 feet can handle 39 amps with no more than a .5 volt drop (going by car audio standards). at 36 amps, it would equate to a .457 volt drop. 10 gauge at 8 feet/36 amps = .288 volt drop.

keep in mind that i am being VERY conservative on wire length. i factored in the ability to route the wire however you want to hide it well. if the main power wire supplying both horns is only 4 feet, then 12 gauge wire will yield a .228 volt drop. 14 gauge wire will yield a .362 volt drop, and 16 gauge will yield a .575 volt drop. 16 gauge is definitely too small to wire up two horns. 14 gauge would be the easiest for most people and would work fine, unless you wanted to run the wire around your engine compartment for some odd reason.
