My third brake light bulb kept burning out. It appeared that it heated through the chrome plastic casing, and some material from above was dripping down into the casing, and onto the bulb.

I used the aluminum-type faced tape. I am not sure if it is aluminum, but it is duct tape type thickness, and has a shiny metal coating. I cut it out to fit on the top underside of the casing, and I have had no more bulbs go out.
