the fundamental frequencies reinforce the sound waves making them more powerful. its pretty much how certain bass reinforcement processors work for subwoofer systems. they add in the upper fundamental freqs at levels that you can't hear/distinguish, which makes the original bass note sound much louder. hearing and the perception of sound is quite amazing
