Does the 8120 need to have a DVD in for GPS navigation or are the maps stored in memory?

thanks!
Maps are stored in flash memory, no dvd needed and updates are done via SD card slot.

I bought mine from sonicelectronix.com

I chose this over the avic because it allows video from ipods and you can sort through the music on your ipod by artist, genre, album, etc. The garmin nav is better then whats on the pioneer unit and I can just plug in a USB stick to play songs.

Bluetooth is built in for hands free calling vs buying a seperate unit to add on to the avic. Also the built in switches allow me to use the headunit to control outside devices with a relay, such as a garage door opener.

The 8120 has 5v preouts so when i upgrade the rest of my stereo system with an amp and speakers its ready to go. The 7100 and avic only have 2v preouts.
